Minutes of meeting

  1. Minutes of the last section meeting held in Thessaloniki (Greece) at XXX IAHR Congress were unanimously approved
  2. Impressions of the 6th Conference of Hydroinformatics, Singapore.

    General assessment was that the conference is a great success. Number of considerations and suggestions for future conferences:

    1. Papers for review should be placed on the Internet for assigned reviewers in order to reduce cost and increase processing speed;
    2. Tutorial and workshop day should be counted as a part of conference days in the announcement for the future (for HIC2004: the suggestion would mean 20 — 24 June 2004 instead of 21 — 24 June);
    3. Conduct special birds of the feather sessions -- need a group of people to champion the special sessions;
    4. Consider inviting more keynote speakers, i.e. 2 per day (HIC2004 invited 4 keynote speakers);
    5. Include Weather Hydrology topic (training workshop and in-depth discussion session);
    6. Immediately inform IAHR/IWA/IAHS of dates for forthcoming events in order to avoid time clash with Council meeting or other conferences/symposiums of IAHR/IAHS/IWA in general and IAHR in particular.
    7. No show-up presenters: don't push up the presentation of subsequent papers. Stick to the allotted time schedule;
  3. 7th Hydroinformatics (2006) Conference will be held in Nice, France: Prof. Philippe Gourbesville gave information on conference facilities and the beauty of Nice. Full support of City of Nice. Date: 4 — 8 September 2006.
  4. XXXI IAHR Congress, Seoul, Korea: Prof. Soon-Bo Shim reported that Theme A is on Hydroinformatics. Because of such a visibility, it is of paramount importance that all section members submit contributions.
  5. XXXII IAHR Congress, Venice, Italy, 2007: Themes have not been yet defined. Prof. Arthur Mynett (Chairman of Division on Methods in Hydraulics of which Hydroinformatics Section is a part) maintains interaction with council in order to ensure visibility for hydroinformatics. Prof. Giustolisi (Technical University of Bari) offered help in maintaining contacts with local organizing committee.
  6. Hydroinformatics 2008: Two expressions of interest to host the 8th Hydroinformatics Conference were announced:
    1. Prof. Paulin Coulibaly of McMaster University, Canada;
    2. Prof. Jianhua TAO of Tianjin University, PR China;

    The intention is to hold Hydroinformatics 2008 back to back with Ecohydraulics conference.

  7. ICHE: Prof. James Ball reported on ICHE held in Brisbane. Total number of participants was slightly over 100.
  8. Issues related to Journal of Hydroinformatics:
    1. Prof. Mike Abbott and Prof. Roger Falconer stepped down as Editors. Elected new editors are: Prof. Arthur Mynett of Delft Hydraulics, Prof. Yui Liong of National University of Singapore and Professor Vedrana Kutija of University of Newcastle.
    2. several discussions evolve around how to make the Journal more visible: (i) Impact factor was queried; (ii) number of circulation was queried; (iii) one suggestion was to give free issues of Journal of Hydroinformatics to paper reviewers; (iii) invite certain individuals to submit papers; (iv) select a few good quality papers from HIC2004, for example, for submission in the journal; (v) free access to the web to download most recently published papers (within a given time period).
  9. Other issues:
    1. Putting up a website for Hydroinformatics group. Volunteers are solicited;
    2. Suggestion to invite: (i) web/mobile group, instrumentation experts, and data collection in next conference; (ii) sociologists to submit article in the Journal (on socio-technology aspect); (iii) setting up awards to attract participants; (iv) encouraging graduate students to participate in the next conference (special student proceedings).
  10. Meeting closed at 19:15.
